Hey! I just wanted to take a few seconds to thank you for all of your support for The Wolf over the last year. It’s been a difficult year for many because of the economy, and I realize you have bigger worries than which radio station you listen to the most, but you have made us a part of your life, and I can’t possibly express to you how much that means to me.

I just passed the 17 year mark here in Kansas City, and even though there have been some downs, the ups have dominated. This is a fantastic area of the country and I have never felt more at home. Thank you for being my kind of people!

Here’s to an exciting 2010!

I hope all the Wolf listeners had a great Christmas! We end a decade this week. It’s amazing to look back at all we’ve been through in the last ten years. The one thing that defines this decade would have to be 9/11 The single most deadly attack on American soil by a foreign enemy. So many other things happened but all pales in comparison to that moment in time. I hope that the next decade will allow all of us to heal and prosper. A very happy new year for all of us! (WP)

This is from Blake Ellis, a contributing writer for CNNMoney.com; December 18, 2009.

carrier_recall_mkw
NEW YORK  CNNMoney.com) — Two government agencies announced the recall of 447,000 Dorel baby carriers Friday after the company received 77 hazard reports about the carrying handle coming off, resulting in at least three infant injuries. “The problem with the unit is the carrying handle,” said Rick Leckner, a spokesman for Dorel. “There’s a bolt on either side and one can come loose. If the child is not harnessed in, the child can fall out.”

A joint statement from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that Dorel, a child products manufacturer, received 77 reports of the handle fully or partially falling off. At least three injuries to infants have been reported, including a head injury, bumps and bruises. The carrier, which also functions as a car seat and as a stroller when purchased as a Travel Systems package, is only a risk when the handle is used. CPSC said the product can still be used as a car seat. “There’s nothing wrong with the seat,” said Leckner. “Once it’s set in the car there’s absolutely no issue.” Brands that used the Dorel-manufactured carrier include Safety 1st, Cosco, Eddie Bauer and Disney (DIS, Fortune 500). They were sold nationwide at department stores and other retail stores carrying products for children between January 2008 and December 2009 and cost between $120 and $220.
Consumers can contact Dorel Juvenile Group at (866) 762-3316 for a free repair kit. The kit includes bolts to secure the handle, Leckner said.

A few of my friends have finished all their Christmas shopping and wrapping — that’s amazing! As for the rest of us, I don’t know about you, but I’m nowhere close to being done!

Something I have made a point of is to try to keep things simple this time of year. I love making stuff, so I’ve already saved a lot of money by doing some homemade gifts. Another thing — and this might be tough for some — was to stop the mad-dash of sending a massive amount of Christmas cards. Several years back, I happened to catch a few minutes of an ‘Oprah’ episode where she was talking about simplifying your life during the holidays. Why? So you’ll actually have the time (and sanity!) to sit back and enjoy everything. She or her guest (I can’t remember which) said that if that meant eliminating some things from your to-do list, such as Christmas cards, then it was okay — and you shouldn’t feel guilty. Well, that did it for me. I still send a few cards here and there, but this was so liberating! And heck, if Oprah says it’s all right, then how can you go wrong? :-)

Have FUN and stay SANE this season!

Do you live in Kansas and have a teenage kid getting ready to become a driver? I remember when I was a teen, I couldn’t WAIT to drive!! This info is from our sister station, 980 KMBZ (thanks, guys!)…

Starting January 1st, sunflower state teens can still get a permit at 14, but must have a licensed adult in the front seat when they get behind the wheel. A teen looking to get a restricted license must have held a permit for at least a year, rather than the current six months, and teens under 16 need to complete driver’s education, and 50 hours of adult-supervised driving, with ten of those coming at night, before they can get a restricted license.

One of the things I do here is that I’m the editor of the Wolf News, which you’ll find at the bottom of the homepage. Lotsa’ interesting stuff in there, and it’s new each day! So, when you’re surfing the site and reading the Wolf News on your coffee break, it’s like we’re hangin’ out — or at least I’m helping you look busy! (Wink.)

Garth Brooks Sues: Hospital Made $500,000 Error
Posted Dec 16th 2009 12:28AM by TMZ Staff

Garth Brooks is waging a bitter legal war against a hospital in his hometown, demanding the Oklahoma hospital return a $500,000 donation he made because it never named a building after his mother.

It’s all over a deal Garth claims he made with Integris Canadian Valley Regional hospital in Yukon, Oklahoma about four years ago. In his lawsuit, filed in state court in Oklahoma, Garth claims his donation was supposed to go towards a new hospital building that would be named after his mother Colleen — who died from cancer in 1999.

But the building never got built — despite a $27 million renovation and expansion project last year — and Garth wants his money back claiming the hospital breached the donation contract.

The hospital claims it’s all a giant misunderstanding and hopes the dispute will reach a “swift and amicable end.”

Clip Art Graphic of a Blue Snail Mailbox Cartoon Character
How’s your holiday shopping going? I’m so behind right now! Thankfully, I won’t have to mail a buncha’ stuff this year, but a LOT of people will.

This past Monday, 12/14, was the U.S. Postal Service’s busiest mailing day of the year, but don’t worry — there’s still some time! According to usps.com, “Holiday shoppers have until Dec. 21 for First-Class Mail and Priority Mail items. For those last-minute shoppers, the Postal Service recommends Dec.23 as the last day to mail Express Mail packages.”

So there ya have it — good luck, and have fun!

Laurie's Holly Photo Getting closer to Christmas! Here’s a picture of some gorgeous holly I saw growing at the park before KC got snowed on. The holidays can get really busy, and you feel like there are a million things to do. I hope, in the midst of it all, you’ll be able to sit back and enjoy the season. Take time to stop and smell the holly — just don’t get poked in the nose! :-)
