Cribs Recalled

Posted in: Laurie

If you are a parent, grandparent or guardian, here’s some very important information, just in case you hadn’t heard.  Recently, there’s been another crib recall, and it’s pretty far-reaching.  Read on, and be safe!

This info is thanks to our friends at The Kansas City Star…..

More than 2 million cribs from Evenflo, Delta Enterprise Corp. and five other companies were recalled Thursday amid concerns that babies can suffocate, become trapped or fall from the cribs. Most of the cribs were drop-sides, which have a side rail that moves up and down so parents can lift children from them more easily. That movable side, however, can malfunction or detach from the crib, creating a dangerous gap where babies’ heads can become trapped, leading to suffocation or strangulation. The other companies involved in the recall were Child Craft, Jardine Enterprises, LaJobi, Million Dollar Baby and Simmons Juvenile Products. In the announcement from the Consumer Product Safety Commission, all seven companies recalled drop-side cribs. Delta and Child Craft also acknowledged problems with fixed-side cribs.’

The recalls involved about:

—750,000 Jenny Lind drop-side cribs distributed by Evenflo Inc.
—747,000 Delta drop-side cribs. Delta is also urging parents to check all fixed and drop-side cribs that use wooden stabilizer bars to support the mattress. The company says the bars can be installed upside down, causing the mattress platform to collapse. CPSC spokesman Scott Wolfson said Delta “was not cooperative with providing the full number of units involved in the mattress support assembly problem.”
—306,000 Bonavita, Babi Italia and ISSI drop-side cribs manufactured by LaJobi Inc.
—130,000 Jardine drop-side cribs imported by Toys R Us.
—156,000 Million Dollar Baby drop-side cribs.
—50,000 Simmons drop-side cribs.
—40,000 to 50,000 Child Craft brand stationary-side cribs and an unknown number of Child Craft brand drop-sides. Child Craft ceased operations last summer and sold its name to Foundations Worldwide Inc., which did not manufacture or sell any of the recalled cribs but will offer rebates for some of them.

Hold on! :-)

Posted in: Laurie

Here’s a photo I took recently in one of our flower beds.

Look closely and you can see a bee!

I think we can all learn a lesson from that little guy.  It was amazing — the wind was blowing like crazy (I snapped this during a rare moment of calm), but he held on and kept working.  He knew getting that nectar was just too important.

If you ever feel down, remember to hold on — you are important!

Over the last week, my dad and I have made some decent progress on the back yard and patio. We have the patio and side walk framed and prepped for base sand and then pavers to go in. It’s been quite a couple of days. A lot of sweat and hard work. Here are some pictures of the progress. As you see the grass is pretty tore up. once everything is in place I will go back and relevel the dirt and get grass replanted. Looking forward to smoking a cigar and having a frosty cold beverage on the back patio. I can’t wait!

Happy Summer!

Posted in: Laurie

It’s sure felt like summer for a long time, hasn’t it?  And now it’s officially here, bay-beeee!

Do you have big plans?  Going on a trip?  Staying close to home?  Time has certainly flown this year — seems like it was New Year’s just yesterday!   I guess times really does fly when you’re having fun, huh?

But hopefully, whatever you do this summer, you’ll have some funand it won’t fly by too quickly!  :-)

Condolences to the friends and family of Jimmy Dean.

The country legend and sausage guru passed away Sunday night at his home in Virginia.  According to reports, it was of natural causes.  Jimmy was 81.

Check out this cool pic of him with Elvis!  You can find more photos on Jimmy’s website:  deancountry.com .

Rest in peace and Godspeed, Jimmy Dean!

I’m one step closer to having things done in the back yard. I’m posting the pictures of the progress of getting the back steps done. You’ll notice the concrete piers under the corners of the platform. If you’re interested in a quick way to put in a deck with minimal excavation you should check these out. Plus if you ever need to change something about your deck you can pick it up and move it without having to do a lot of work. After all the trouble with the last set of back steps having something that could be easily adjusted sounded like just the ticket for me. :0)

Here are the pics.

Next is getting the paver patio in place and that work starts this weekend, hoping for some dry weather for a week or two while I get this in. I’ll post pictures during the process. (WP)
