Hope you’ve enjoyed the first week of fall! What a pretty time of year — and it’s just going to get prettier!
Before ya know it, the holidays will be here, and things will really be busy. I’m making it a goal to pause to enjoy this season while it’s here, so I put out some pumpkins the other day, and I’m excited to see the mums in our yard blooming. Wouldn’t it be great if the weather just stayed like this?
Here’s a photo I snapped of some beautiful red leaves last fall. Can’t wait ’til they get like that again. Have fun, guys!
Even though kids are back to school, and most summer activities have come to a close, we can officially say it’s autumn in a couple days. I really enjoy the ever-changing seasons!
Now, the thought of what season comes next never thrills me (not a fan of the cold), but fall sure is beautiful while it’s here!
I’ve always loved the autumn leaves and the explosion of color we get all around us, but I didn’t really have a lot of fall flowers around until we bought our first house — it was like a wonderful surprise gift to see a huge number of mums blooming, that previous owners had planted in our yard! Now I find myself stopping to smell the flowers almost all year long.
Here’s wishing you a great start of autumn, full of fun surprises of your own!
The Great Northwest: Portland, Oregon. The Pacific Ocean to the west, the Columbia River Gorge to the east. Photo highlights include a 1600 Surgeon named “Henry”, a 300 ft. waterfall, 500 ft. cliffs plunging to the Pacific Ocean, 12,000 ft. Mount Hood, Lighthouses, Dungeness Crab, Chinook Salmon, Honey Crisp Apples and Wine Country! (though certainly not in that order)
My wife, Kelly and I are just 10 miles beyond the Columbia River Gorge. It’s a big blue sky over vineyards and fruit farms stretching out ahead of us. This climate/soil is about to give birth to the next big craze for wine lovers. We do a tasting or 2 along the way. The air is sheer freshness, spiced with the scent of deep woods pine. We spot a sign that reads, “Draper Girls Produce”….probably no relation to Mad Men’s, Don Draper, but we stop anyway to purchase the tastiest peaches and Honey Crisp Apples on the planet, not to mention a jar of Marionberry jam.
Back on the road, we’re sippin’ icy cold pear juice, heading to snow capped Mount Hood rising above a layer of white clouds and distant forest. Foot on the throttle, jammin’ full volume to the Doobie Brothers song, ”Ukiah” from their album, “The Captain and Me”…..if you know the words, you know how perfect it is!
We had a great turn out for the Adopt-a-Thon last weekend. I know there are a lot of happy pets that have found loving homes. We adopted our dog Willie at the spring pet adopt-a-thon, and couldn’t be happier with our puppy. I hope that if you’re looking for a pet you will visit your local animal shelter and give a stray a second chance. I also hope you’re enjoying this cooler weather! (WP)
Wow! THANK YOU to everyone who participated in the Wolf’s Fall Pet Adopt-A-Thon at Wayside Waifs! It was awesome to see so many of you walk into the event and walk out with new furry friends — thanks to you, *175* precious dogs, cats, puppies and kittens have new homes!
My husband and I adopted a sweet little kitty a few years ago at the Wolf’s first Pet Adopt-A-Thon at Wayside Waifs, and I can’t say enough good things – not only about how much we love our cat, but how wonderful Wayside Waifs made the whole experience!
If you weren’t able to join us this time, but you think you’ll be looking for a new pet (or two! ) in the future, please visit Wayside Waifs. You’ll be glad you did! There’s lots of great info on their website: www.waysidewaifs.org .
I’m really excited to be emceeing again this year for the American Diabetes Association’s “Step Out: Walk to Fight Diabetes.”
Did you know that there are over 24 million Americans living with diabetes, including more than 320,000 in the KC area? That’s a pretty staggering number to think about! I also read that one in every three children born since 2000 will develop diabetes in their lifetime — that is, unless we stop it. Every dollar raised will help the ADA fund research for a cure and provide programs in our community.
I hope you’ll join me in supporting this cause. And check this out: this is one of the few walks in the city that has NO registration fee to walk! How cool is that?
Here’s the basic event info:
Saturday, September 25th
Theis Park, just east of the Country Club Plaza
Registration opens at 7:30am
Event starts at 9:00am
PleaseCLICK HERE to register for FREE and to get full details. (You can also call 1-888-DIABETES.)
