A month or so ago, you heard me interviewing WOLF artist Josh Kelley about his involvement with the Hunger-Free Summer program, which works to make sure children do not go hungry during the summer when they don’t have access to school meals.
Josh explained how the ConAgra Foods Foundation had partnered with the Feeding America food bank network to form Hunger-Free Summer and provide grants to local food banks throughout the U.S. Josh spent the summer on a Hunger-Free Summer Tour, raising public awareness and visiting and volunteering at some of the food banks that received the grants.

As a matter of fact, Kansas City’s own Harvesters – The Community Food Network was named Feeding America’s 2011 Food Bank of the Year! Learn more about Harvesters at www.harvesters.org.
Now that it’s back-to-school time, I think it’s still important to remember that it’s never too late to get involved and help fight hunger.

Hunger is, unfortunately, something that affects people year-round. There might even be someone close to you who is hungry right now, even if they don’t let you know. Let’s make sure our friends and neighbors have access to nutritious food throughout the year.
September will be Feeding America’s HUNGER ACTION MONTH, and the Harvesters website has a lot of great info (click here for a direct ink) about ways we can all take action right here in the KC area. Please check it out and see how you can help. Thanks, and take care!
